Islamabad: After a long dry spell, various parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, have started receiving rainfall and snowfall, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department predicting widespread rain across the country.
Intermittent rain has been reported in Quetta and its surrounding areas since late last night, while snowfall has been ongoing in Ziarat since this morning. The rain has significantly increased cold temperatures, and multiple electricity feeders have tripped, causing power outages in different parts of the city.
Meanwhile, light rain has been recorded in Sibi, Mastung, Sanjavi, Sui, Dera Allah Yar, and surrounding areas, resulting in colder weather. In Sanjavi’s mountainous regions, rainfall has led to flash floods in local streams, while Qila Abdullah has also witnessed light snowfall, slightly increasing the intensity of cold in the area.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the rainy spell in Balochistan is expected to continue for the next 12 hours.
Additionally, the PMD has warned that a rain-bearing weather system is entering the country’s northern regions today. This system is expected to bring intermittent rain in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, accompanied by heavy snowfall in the mountains.
Due to the intense snowfall, authorities have expressed concerns over possible road blockages in Murree, Galiyat, Naran, and Kaghan. There is also a risk of landslides and avalanches in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and other mountainous regions.
Authorities have urged travelers and residents in the affected areas to exercise caution and stay updated with official weather advisories.
